More Than 100 People Attend Our First Meet and Greet

Our first meet-and-greet event with followers of the blog went well yesterday. More than 100 people showed up at Lol-Ha Restaurant in Akumal to meet us in person and have a few drinks.

We are truly humbled by the by the high turnout. When we scheduled the event, we were predicting that maybe a dozen people would attend, if any, since most of our followers are spread all over North America.

Most of the attendees drove to Akumal from somewhere else in the state of Quintana Roo, but one gentleman that I spoke with drove two days from the west coast just for the event.

I’m sure we said it a lot yesterday, but we want to thank everyone who attended for their time, support and encouragement. Meeting you all meant a lot to both Linda and me and it has inspired us to keep blogging and making free Spanish lessons.

I don’t want this post to start sounding like an acceptance speech at the Academy Awards, but we can’t end it without thanking Carlos, Miguel and all of the wonderful staff at Lol-Ha Restaurant for the phenomenal job that they did yesterday. Not many restaurants could have handled over a hundred customers arriving at the same time, but they make it look easy.

Here are a few pics our friend, Mike Moorman, took during the event:

Let’s Wrap This Up

All in all, we felt that the event went very well. Our only regret is that we weren’t able to spend more time chatting with each person, but it just wasn’t possible in the time allotted. Before we knew it, two hours had flown by and the event was over.

That’s wonderful! I wish I could’ve been there. Maybe next time!

    • We will probably do this again. And who knows, we might schedule some in different cities in Mexico. As we often say here, anything is possible in Mexico.

Wow great turnout sorry we missed it coming back down in a couple weeks. Looks like your doing something right. Enjoy. Tom & Barb Ohio

  12. Looks like a great time. Sorry we missed it – it’s 9 below zero here and snowing. The good news is everything is closed, so no work today!

    • I promised myself long ago that I would never live in a place where it gets that cold. I really loathe the cold. Enjoy the day off and stay warm!

  13. This is such a great post! It gives me pleasure to see the great connections you have been making. The pictures are great. Makes me feel as if i was there.

    Congratulations!

Very nice Paul! Congrats on your event. I wanted to attend but have visitors here in my house in Cancun. I do love Akumal and have been there several times with my guests and family. Looking forward to your next blog and event! Take care my friend! Russ

    • Maybe we’ll see you at the next one. Someone suggested that we have them in different areas. The challenge will be selling Linda on the idea…lol.

  16. Not surprised. You two are reaching anyone and everyone who may be researching or who are serious about moving to Mexico…, like Janelle and I. We will see you two soon and hopefully at the next gathering.

Hoping you have a meet in Playa for those of us without a car. Someplace in Central walking distance to beach. We are @38th Street.

    • Several people have asked us to do something similar in PDC, so perhaps we will someday. πŸ™‚

Love your blog – only wish I was in Mexico to join you πŸ™

  19. What a fun surprise…we are in Playa, no car, and too relaxed to figure another way but it was nice to acknowledge you at the Dirty Martini Lounge a couple of weeks ago…

    • Ah, the Dirty Martini Lounge. One of our favorites. Perhaps you’ll be able to make one of our events if we hold it in PDC.

You two are just awesome. So nice of you to do this for people. We are heading to Tulum on Feb. 14 just for a short week πŸ™ Hope to meet you one day.

    • I would say that you might run into us while you’re in the area; however, we have a trip planned for the week you’ll be here.

Im so jealous. If you have another one in March, hopefully I can attend. Looks like a fun time!

    • I’m not sure about March. We have a lot of travel plans that month and very few available dates on the calendar.

Congratulations on a great event. It is a great networking opportunity for expats to meet others from other parts of Mexico! Sharing experiences with each other is the best way to learn. You have done an excellent job with your blog. Everyone loves sharing your success.

  30. and SURELY you gave a speech? Lets hear about it.. !! πŸ™‚

    • Actually, I didn’t give a speech. We would probably have needed a microphone for that. That might be something we think about if we ever choose to do this again.

  31. Vicki L Stirkey | February 7, 2019 at 4:28 pm |

Glad you had such a nice turnout. If we had been there, we would have come from Puerto Morelos. Your blogs are always full of good information. Thanks for all you do!

  35. Wow great turnout!!
Encouragement to keep the blog going
Can u tell me the best way to travel from Playa to Akumal how far is it & the best fun place for lunch? Thanks
    Paula & Ken

    • Straight down the main highway (307) from Playa del Carmen and the ride is about 25 minutes. The exit will say Akumal. There are several great places for lunch. Our favorites are Tequilaville, Turtle Bay and Lol-Ha Restaurant.

  36. Seriously! How cool is that? Love it. Bravo. (and glad this probably means you’ll do it again. πŸ™‚

  37. So glad it was a good turnout. Hopefully you’ll keep these going and we’ll actually be there one month as we feel like we know you both!

    • We will probably do this again in the future. Perhaps we’ll meet in person if we do. πŸ™‚

  38. alice hesselrode | February 7, 2019 at 8:09 pm |

Great meeting you and Linda. Glad I made the trip from Playa on colectivo. Besides you two met wonderful folks there. Like attracts like. The service at Lol Ha was great.

  39. How come everyone looks so happy and relaxed? Don’t resemble anyone around the office here. I better come down and try to figure it out πŸ˜‰

Congrats Linda and Paul, looks like you guys put on a great get-together!

Wow, everyone is beaming with good health!. Our small, informal Spanish conversation group in country town Australia LOVE your lessons. We appreciate the time that must be involved to plan such clear, easily understood topics.

    • Thanks, Judith. I plan on adding some more lessons in the near future. I’ve been slacking a bit lately. πŸ™‚

  42. Wonderful turnout. Hope you do it again!

  45. Renee Campion | March 10, 2019 at 4:45 pm |

Lol-Ha is my favorite place to eat when I am down there. Great turn out, keep up the awesome information you share. 19 months until retirement from law enforcement for me. Hoping to make this my dream and your blog helps with my decision. Thank you!
