One of our Patreon members recently asked if there was anyway to check the status of her vehicle’s temporary import permit (TIP) online. She said that she had just renewed it at the Custom’s office in Cancun, but due to the language barrier, she was unsure if it had been done correctly.
Fortunately for her, and anyone else who wants to check the status of their TIP, there’s a government website where that information can be obtained quickly after entering a couple of pieces of data.
I figured some of our other readers might find the site useful, so here’s the link:

If you entered your information correctly, you should be directed to a screen that looks like this:
Let’s Wrap This Up
There’s really not much more I can say about this particular post, so I’ll just close this one by saying thanking our readers for their patience this last month while Linda and I were traveling around Mexico.
In spite of the fact that we rarely posted — and when we did it was just a collection of vacation pics — the blog still got over 100,000 page views in February. Thanks for that!
Well, it’s time to get back to work and start writing informative blog articles again. Hasta luego!
Thank you for posting this!
i JUST CHECKED THE SITE – HELPFUL. HAS ALL OF MY INFO. IS THERE A WAY TO CANCEL THE PERMIT – WITHOUT GOING TO A BANJERCITO OFFICE AT THE BORDER?
If you’ve gone to Aduana and applied for an extension of the TIP due to getting your Permanent Resident Visa, or renewing your Temporal Visa, please be advised that it can take up to 90 days for Aduana to update the status of your extension. If you turn in your TIP at the border prior to them updating their system, you will not, repeat will not, get your refund. It makes no difference if you have paperwork showing the extension – if it’s not in their system, no refund. Voiice of experience here. I always check before driving north and if the status hasn’t been update, I don’t turn in the TIP and take my chances.
Thanks for sharing that information, Ron.
