  6. I want to let my fellow expats and tourists know about a problem with ATMs. Within the last year, banks started offering you a conversion rate. They give you an option to accept it or decline it.

    Always decline!
    If you decline, they’ll dispense your money at a much better conversion rate offered by your bank.

    It started with HSBC Bank but now they all do it with the exception of Citi banamex.

    If you’re taking about eight thousand pesos out, this could amount to a savings of up to $40!
